Can We Travel Again?
Are you wondering where you could travel to this summer?
Now that many of us are vaccinated we're feeling like we can't wait to get away this summer or at a minimum, this coming fall. As countries begin to open up, we start thinking to ourselves…Is it too soon? Should we go? Where should we go?
Beginning in May, Greece is allowing travelers from the US to enter the country and they are no longer subject to a seven-day quarantine requirement if you have either a vaccination certification or a negative PCR test issued within 72 hours. Iceland also is open to vaccinated travelers or ones with a PCR test within 72 hours. Unofficially, Italy is planning a re-opening June 2 but a more realistic estimate would be third quarter of this year. The question is: should you go?
Many of us are thinking we want to visit as soon as a destination reopens but before the crowds return. In my opinion, the summer may be too soon as Europe still struggles with COVID issues and that September/October is a safer bet. And maybe it's time for us to rethink tourism strategies and the effect that over-tourism has had on certain areas. Venice has gone from catastrophic flooding to dolphins swimming in the canal, a much-needed reprieve after overcrowding of tourists for years. After a year at home, maybe authentic travel experiences become what people crave, with a respect for the preservation of what we love about the places we visit. I would recommend planning your trip soon as many are already looking to book their 2022 travels abroad. You might find this article interesting as well Country by country guide by The Points Guy
If you're looking to travel this summer, you need to plan right away because everyone is needing a change of scenery and many destinations are almost at full capacity. For instance, the National Parks, Hawaii and Mexico are extremely booked for this summer and it's difficult to find even moderately priced lodging at this time. Certain Caribbean islands are open as well which may be a last-minute option. Stay safe and happy travels!
